About the Journal
General Information
Law and World (LaW) is an international, peer-reviewed, and refereed scientific journal of the European University Institute of Law. It is a stable academic platform for legal research and is published in both print and electronic formats. The journal is oriented toward publishing scholarly works of high academic value in accordance with international academic standards.
The journal is open to collaboration with scholars from different countries worldwide. Articles are accepted and published only if they comply with the editorial policy, academic standards, and peer-review requirements of Law and World Journal.
Research Profile and Thematic Focus
The thematic scope of the journal’s research encompasses the following areas within an international and comparative context:
- International law and human rights law;
- Constitutional law and constitutional adjudication;
- Criminal law and international human rights standards in criminal proceedings;
- Contemporary challenges in public and private law, including digital law and the legal regulation of artificial intelligence.
The journal also welcomes research in other related fields of law, provided that they are connected to questions of international or comparative law and form part of contemporary international academic discussion.
Research focused on a single jurisdiction is accepted only if they clearly prove the international significance of its conclusions and the potential applicability of the results to other legal systems.
Interdisciplinary Framework
Authors are encouraged to enrich their legal analysis by drawing on knowledge from other disciplines (such as philosophy, economics, politology, public administration, or technology studies), provided that legal analysis remains the central and dominant component of the research.
Mission
The mission of Law and World Journal is to promote the development and dissemination of scholarly knowledge in the field of law by publishing research conducted in comparative, international, or transnational contexts, aimed at the critical, theoretical, and practical understanding of legal problems. The journal seeks to foster legal discussion that transcends a single jurisdiction and is relevant to the international academic and professional community.
Objectives
The main objectives of the journal are to:
- Establish a stable academic platform for scholarly debate in the fields of comparative and international law;
- Promote the internationalization of legal research and the comparison of experiences of different legal systems;
- Ensure the accessibility of high-quality, original, and methodologically consistent scholarly works to a wide international audience;
- Encourage interdisciplinary research in which legal analysis occupies a central position.

Readers are free to read, download, copy, distribute, print, research and use the full text of the article without registration and prior permission from the publisher and/or author, within the limits of applicable law.
The author retains copyright for the paper and grants the journal the opportunity for initial publication. The article is also licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. This license permits further use with a reference to the author and original publisher.
Authors are allowed to reproduce their papers, but they must credit the journal as the source of the original publication.
Open-access
The LaW fully recognizes the policy of open access, on the grounds that the free access to research will contribute to the society in the issue of knowledge exchange more globally.
The journal offers readers free, rapid and constant access to papers worldwide while allowing authors to broadly disseminate their published articles and include them in internationally recognized scientific databases and digital repositories.
Authors are allowed to deposit all versions of their manuscripts - the submitted version (preprint), the accepted version (postprint), and the published version (version of record) - in institutional, disciplinary, or personal repositories of their choice. No embargo period applies. Authors are strongly encouraged to include a full citation of the original publication and a link to the official journal website when depositing their work.
The journal is a party to the Budapest and Berlin Open Access Declarations.
Article Submission Deadline
Article submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis. If the peer review process is successfully completed, the article will be published in the current issue upon conclusion of the review.
Language
Articles are published in English or in an English–Georgian format (since 2022).
Each article is undergoing a linguistic check.
Publication Fees
All Article Publication Charges (APCs) are currently being paid for by Law Institute of the European University and no payment will be requested from the author.
This means that the journal covers all publication costs, including editorial processes, web hosting, indexing, marketing, archiving, technical and linguistic correction of the text, DOI registration and ensures that all of the content is fully open access.
Content Preservation
LaW publications are deposited in the following digital archives, ensuring long-term digital preservation guarantee: CLOCKSS, Internet Archive, Portico.
Publication Frequency
The journal has been published four times a year:
- End of March

LaW has a unique logo design, registered in accordance with the edition of the Nice International Classification of Goods and Services.

LaW does not display advertisements.
